On Wednesday 9th February, Alec led a debate in Westminster Hall, aimed at raising awareness of endometriosis and the impact that this condition has on women in the workplace.
Endometriosis is a systemic, inflammatory disease characterised by the presence of endometrial-like tissue found outside the uterus. Endometriosis negatively impacts on the physical, emotional, reproductive health, sexual health, financial security, relationships, careers and schooling of those affected.
Despite affecting around 10% of women and girls at some point in their lives, awareness of the condition remains low. Alec has therefore worked with local partners, national organisations and across Government to raising the standard of treatment and awareness for these women.
During the debate, Alec led a cross-party group in questioning Paul Scully MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, about improving employer awareness and assisting women with endometriosis in the workplace.
