Labour-run Leeds City Council is consulting on a plan put forward by Councillors to build 12,500 new homes across the Elmet & Rothwell constituency.
Alec is urging local residents to join him in responding to this consultation. In February 2015 Alec sent surveys to homes in Elmet & Rothwell asking for views and comments on Leeds City Council’s plan. Hundreds of people responded to that survey: 12% said they felt poorly consulted by the Council and 88% of residents stated they had not been consulted at all.
Since the beginning of the site allocations process Alec has been working with local community groups and Parish Councils to put forward sensible suggestions to the housing pressures in our area, arguing that the Council’s plan risks adding further pressures to local services that are already saturated.
In September, Leeds City Council launched a public consultation on their plan. Alec is concerned that many of his constituents are not aware of this consultation, so is urging people to respond. This is the biggest issue to face our community in many years and it is paramount that local residents put their views across to Councillors in Leeds to make sure the future look of our area reflects the wishes of residents.
Important: Leeds City Council has imposed a consultation deadline of 16th November 2015.
