Alec joined residents at Leeds City Council last week to successfully oppose an application to build 700 new homes on land east of Scholes
Alec said: “This battle wasn’t won by any one individual but by the village pulling together, supported by its elected representatives, and putting forward sensible arguments.
But fears remain as to where the 70,000 new homes proposed by Labour-run Leeds City Council will now go.
Alec added: “Leeds City Council still refuse to review the number of homes it wishes to build across Leeds over the next fifteen years. Despite me raising concerns, both at Leeds City Council and in the House of Commons, that an overall target of over 70,000 is far too high, Leeds remains committed to building 12,500 new homes somewhere in my constituency. I continue to argue that this government’s success in clamping down on immigration and cutting net immigration by nearly a third from its peak under the last government – when 3million migrants entered the UK – means we no longer need as many homes in our area.”
