The canine companions of two Yorkshire MPs were among the four-legged friends fighting to win the paw-litical event of the year. Boris, owned by Elmet and Rothwell MP Alec Shelbrooke and George, the four-legged friend of Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell, were among 24 political pooches that lined up to contest the annual Westminster Dog of the Year competition
The event, run by the Dogs Trust and Kennel Club, is celebrating its 20th year and aimed to raise awareness of responsible dog ownership. This year it culminated in a “doggy dash” to the MPs to show that they are their owners’ best friends.
But neither Boris nor George were named top dog. A Norfolk terrier belonging to Dover MP Charlie Elphicke scooped the accolade.
