Alec welcomed recent news that unemployment in Elmet & Rothwell is falling month on month. In November 2013, unemployment fell to just 1.9% with more people in work than ever before.
Nationally, the number of people in employment reached a record high of 29.78 million, with a rise of 300,000 over the last year. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the growth in employment has been fuelled by a rise in permanent jobs – up 110,000 over the last 3 months.
Alec said: “Before the last election I made a pledge to do all I could to bring more local jobs to Elmet & Rothwell so I’m pleased to see that we are now benefitting from the Government’s proactive policies on jobs and growth here in Elmet & Rothwell. This Government has supported the creation of over 1.4million new private sector jobs nationally and its national insurance cut for small businesses is helping to create even more jobs.
Some politicians suggest the way to grow the economy is for the state to fund new jobs – this is economic stupidity. Government’s don’t have money, they collect our taxes and those taxes come from profits and income within the private sector so it should be the Government’s job to help create more private sector jobs and generate more tax revenue to pay down the national debt and invest in public services such as the NHS.”
