This week Alec teamed up with the Kennel Club & Dogs Trust to raise awareness of responsible pet ownership at Westminster.
Speaking after the competition Alec said “It’s great to give the dogs a good run around and day out: my own animals have always enjoyed the show! There is, though, a serious point to be made in that the competition aims to raise awareness of responsible dog ownership. In September of last year I spoke at length in the Commons about the problems caused by irresponsible breeding and lack of proper care for animals. All too often, unwanted dogs end up in the hands of the Dogs Trust in my constituency: or worse, they are destroyed. While the Dogs Trust do superb work, they are constantly struggling to stay on top of the serious issues raised by irresponsible dog ownership, and as Christmas approaches I urge people to think very carefully before they take on a dog.”
The Leeds Dogs Trust rehoming centre is located just off York Road between Barwick-in-Elmet and Bramham, in the heart of the Elmet and Rothwell constituency. They are constantly seeking homes for abandoned dogs, and volunteers to help at the centre. To find out more, visit their website at https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/our-centres/leeds/
