The Boundary Commission for England and Wales have published their interim proposals to equalise the number of people in constituencies.
No change is proposed for the Elmet & Rothwell constituency, which is currently made up of the following council wards: Garforth & Swillington, Harewood, Kippax & Methley, Rothwell, Wetherby.
Alec said “I welcome the Commission’s initial proposals for my constituency of Elmet & Rothwell. This is my home and a constituency I very much enjoy representing in Parliament. I have always sought to represent fellow residents from a local viewpoint and to that end I think it is a wise suggestion to keep our collection of communities together within one constituency”.
In 2007, when Alec was first selected to stand as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate in Elmet & Rothwell, the constituency was held be Labour with a notional 6,000 majority. After years of campaigning in the area and representing residents on issues the local Labour Party were uninterested in, Alec won the seat in 2010 by overturning what was then considered to be a healthy Labour majority and securing a 4,521 Conservative majority. After five years serving the area as its Conservative Member of Parliament, the Elmet & Rothwell constituency re-elected Alec with a majority of 8,490 votes in 2015.
