On Monday, Ministers from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced over £14 million of additional funding to support the roll out of electric vehicle chargers across West Yorkshire.
These funds will be provided to West Yorkshire's Combined Authority and come as part of a wider scheme of investment across 44 councils, totalling over £200 million, speeding the delivery of charge points and assisting resident's without off-street parking to access electric chargers.
There are now around 57,000 public chargers across the UK, an increase of 47% since March 2023, and the UK is on track to have 300,000 charge points by 2030. Additionally, over 380,000 domestic charge point installations have benefitted from Government grants.
Commenting, Sir Alec said, "I am pleased that further funding has been made available to West Yorkshire's Combined Authority, and I will now be working to hold the Labour Mayor of West Yorkshire to account to ensure that this funding goes directly towards improving charging infrastructure for motorists."
