Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE) has recently been awarded with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the highest possible honour for a voluntary organisation, for the vital role it plays in supporting elderly people locally.
WiSE was founded in 2003, and is a local charity that aims to improve the quality of life for over 60s in Wetherby and the surrounding villages. They provide a range of services including social activities, grass cutting, transportation and general advice.
Alec said, "Since I became a Member of Parliament in 2010, I have met regularly with the volunteers and staff to witness first hand the fantastic support that they provide to elderly people. Receiving such a prestigious award is testament to the tireless dedication of everyone at WiSE to improving the lives of others".
Alec has published a Dementia Directory for Elmet & Rothwell, accessible here.
